Wool­shed to get the quake test

An­other coun­cil-owned build­ing has prompted safety con­cerns.

Gear Wool­shed is be­ing as­sessed by an en­gi­neer due to con­cerns about its abil­ity to sur­vive an earth­quake.

The de­tails of the re­port will be pre­sented to coun­cil this week.

The Gear Wool­shed is home to the Wool­shed Pot­ters so­ci­ety. Com­mit­tee mem­ber Linda Savell said the so­ci­ety has been told very lit­tle in­for­ma­tion about the build­ing’s prob­lems at this stage, and is car­ry­ing on with its nor­mal ac­tiv­i­ties.

‘‘Un­til we hear back from coun­cil we’re just go­ing to go with busi­ness as usual,’’ she says.

The so­ci­ety is cross­ing its fin­gers the build­ing will re­main vi­able as its HQ, Ms Savell says.

‘‘Ob­vi­ously we would very much like to stay there.’’
