Woolshed to get the quake test
Another council-owned building has prompted safety concerns.
Gear Woolshed is being assessed by an engineer due to concerns about its ability to survive an earthquake.
The details of the report will be presented to council this week.
The Gear Woolshed is home to the Woolshed Potters society. Committee member Linda Savell said the society has been told very little information about the building’s problems at this stage, and is carrying on with its normal activities.
‘‘Until we hear back from council we’re just going to go with business as usual,’’ she says.
The society is crossing its fingers the building will remain viable as its HQ, Ms Savell says.
‘‘Obviously we would very much like to stay there.’’
