Porirua City Council is known for its quick meetings, but a new record may have been set on August 30 – 30 seconds. Debate over the council’s endorsement of gay marriage was halted for half a minute because a meeting of the District Plan Committee was scheduled to begin at 9.30am. Its chairman Tim Sheppard didn’t twist his tongue once as he raced through the formalities to adjourn the meeting. The marriage debate reconvened before the clock showed 9.31am.
