Paremata-Plimmerton RFC’s under-13 Barracudas had a perfect season in 2012 but their coaches say respecting the club’s values was more important.
The side won the Queen’s Birthday 7s title and one of their players, Fa’afetai Neli, was selected for the Wellington under-13 programme.
Head coach Petelo Alosio said even though winning was part of their strategy, the commitment, self confidence and pride in the club were a primary focus.
‘‘Watching and supporting these kids in the last five years, I realised this team has some real natural athletes with raw talents to burn.
‘‘Therefore, if [fellow coach] Phil Tuffins and I were just putting the right support and leadership plan in place both on and off the field, the outcomes would follow.’’
He looked forward to seeing the players at college level.
