Pataka market to be monthly event

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

The ‘‘underground’’ market staged at Pataka on Sunday is to become a monthly attraction, filtering the best of the Wellington version.

Kapiti resident Wendy Jasper owns the Underground Market, held each Saturday in the underground car park at Frank Kitts Park.

She says the Porirua experience is in response to both stallholders and shoppers asking for more contemporary craft events outside of the Wellington CBD and not on a Saturday.

‘‘Many of our shoppers are parents who have Saturday commitments and Sunday is the only day they have free for these events.

‘‘Also, many of our stallholders are from Porirua and the Kapiti and have wanted a regular market of similar quality closer to home.’’

The first Pataka art and craft market was held over the weekend.

It will continue to be held on the third Sunday of every month.

Shoppers will find a laid- back ‘‘Sunday brunch atmosphere’’, says Ms Jasper.

Shoppers can meander through the stalls of 40 emerging and established local artists who specialise in producing handmade wares.

She says the basil dressing from The Green Goddess is a market favourite and there will be natural skin care from another local success, Earth 174.

The next Underground Market @ Pataka will be on Sunday, October 21, from 11am till 3pm. Visit: www.undergroundmar
