Students to share stage with renowned musician
Musician and composer Barnaby Weir will headline Whitireia music degree students in two concerts at Wellington’s Ilott Theatre next week.
Whitireia Up Front with Barnaby Weir will showcase the talent and skill of 31 up-and-coming contemporary rock, pop and jazz musicians. In addition, about 20 students will work front of house, light and sound production, stage management and backstage.
The gig will feature some of Weir’s best loved material, spanning an eclectic range of genres including material from Black Seeds and Fly My Pretties, with some fresh arrangements. Whitireia Up Front music gigs, where students perform alongside established artists in a concert venue, have been running since 2000.
Previous gigs have featured musicians such as Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy’s Drop) and Karl Steven (Supergroove) and have received critical praise from the artists and public.
