Theatre to pop up on council site
Porirua’s first ‘‘ pop up theatre’’ will launch in November when Porirua Little Theatre stages its latest production in the old Pete’s Emporium building, 4 Lydney Pl.
Disco Inferno will play there after the company’s Titahi Bay theatre was closed in August for safety reasons.
As much staging is being taken from the old building as possible to furnish the council-owned 4 Lydney Pl.
But a lot of hard graft will need to be done to get it ready for the November opening night, theatre president Sandy Brewer says.
Engineers are still assessing the Whitehouse Rd building and demolition is not a done deal, she says.
The theatre company has opened a building fund towards restoration of its theatre, or the building of a new theatre, depending on engineers’ decision. To donate contact the treasurer at PO Box 50-319.
Porirua Little Theatre won seven awards at Wellington’s recent Antoinette Awards, including best director, musical, sound/ music, costuming and set design for The Producers.
