The­atre to pop up on coun­cil site

Porirua’s first ‘‘ pop up the­atre’’ will launch in Novem­ber when Porirua Lit­tle The­atre stages its lat­est pro­duc­tion in the old Pete’s Emporium build­ing, 4 Lyd­ney Pl.

Disco In­ferno will play there af­ter the com­pany’s Ti­tahi Bay the­atre was closed in Au­gust for safety rea­sons.

As much stag­ing is be­ing taken from the old build­ing as pos­si­ble to fur­nish the coun­cil-owned 4 Lyd­ney Pl.

But a lot of hard graft will need to be done to get it ready for the Novem­ber open­ing night, the­atre pres­i­dent Sandy Brewer says.

En­gi­neers are still as­sess­ing the White­house Rd build­ing and de­mo­li­tion is not a done deal, she says.

The the­atre com­pany has opened a build­ing fund to­wards restora­tion of its the­atre, or the build­ing of a new the­atre, de­pend­ing on en­gi­neers’ de­ci­sion. To do­nate contact the trea­surer at PO Box 50-319.

Porirua Lit­tle The­atre won seven awards at Welling­ton’s re­cent An­toinette Awards, in­clud­ing best di­rec­tor, mu­si­cal, sound/ mu­sic, cos­tum­ing and set de­sign for The Pro­duc­ers.
