Christ­mas food drive

Fire en­gines will cruise the streets of Whitby next month toot­ing for tucker. The Christ­mas food drive will be tak­ing place si­mul­ta­ne­ously through­out the sub­urb be­tween 5.30pm and 7.30pm on De­cem­ber 4 and 5, and 12 and 13, un­der­taken by Plim­mer­ton Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade with sup­port cars driven by Plim­mer­ton Ro­tar­i­ans. Vol­un­teers will be knock­ing on doors and seek­ing items of non-per­ish­able food for the Sal­va­tion Army Food Bank in Porirua. Items such as cans of meat and fish, baked beans, ce­re­als, pas­tas, jars of jams and spreads, plas­tic pots of fruit – any­thing that won’t per­ish – would be ap­pre­ci­ated. No fresh food. Res­i­dents may also do­nate cash, which will be used to buy food for the food bank. To help with the col­lec­tion, con­tact Mike Scott on 233 6556.
