Christmas food drive
Fire engines will cruise the streets of Whitby next month tooting for tucker. The Christmas food drive will be taking place simultaneously throughout the suburb between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on December 4 and 5, and 12 and 13, undertaken by Plimmerton Volunteer Fire Brigade with support cars driven by Plimmerton Rotarians. Volunteers will be knocking on doors and seeking items of non-perishable food for the Salvation Army Food Bank in Porirua. Items such as cans of meat and fish, baked beans, cereals, pastas, jars of jams and spreads, plastic pots of fruit – anything that won’t perish – would be appreciated. No fresh food. Residents may also donate cash, which will be used to buy food for the food bank. To help with the collection, contact Mike Scott on 233 6556.
