Work not starting

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

Porirua residents will not see any demolition work under the canopies this summer.

As we reported on December 18, a Porirua City Council report noted that 8 Cobham Court – which houses the i-Site and four other tenants – would be demolished as part of the city centre revitalisation project, with works beginning over the following three months.

However, a council spokesperson has since told Kapi-Mana News such work would ‘‘definitely not’’ occur in the coming months, with further design work to be carried out.

Some very small initial physical works may occur before the end of the financial year in June.

Large- scale demolition would require further investment, from both the council and external sources.

Kapi-Mana News will look to run further stories on the city centre upgrade, timelines for 2013, and what it means for retailers, visitors and residents, in the near future.
