Keeping Porirua Beautiful

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Editor,

I would like to respond to the comments by Trev Mason [KMN, December 25].

Having recently moved away from Porirua to Tawa, I was shocked to see Keep Porirua Beautiful had closed, which meant that John Poppleton was and is without a job.

I am not aware of what happened about KPB closing down, but would like to make a comment to say that it is a sad world when things happen to an organisation that is helping the community.

I was a volunteer before John took over the running of KPB from Kevin Jamieson and it was a wonderful organisation to work for.

Also, I was a volunteer for Porirua Community Guardians and we had close contact with John and worked together with him to make Porirua a better place to live in.

I am terribly sorry for John and all the good time-consuming work he put into the Porirua community, and other volunteer organisations he was involved with. He will be missed. So what else are we to expect in the future with job cuts/losses and businesses closing down? One wonders.

All the very best for the future John.
