New sheds downsized
New boat sheds planned for Plimmerton Boating Club will be scaled down after concerns about their size were voiced by neighbours.
A public meeting was held on December 15 to air the club’s plans for redevelopment. Its first project will be demolishing two dozen ageing boat sheds on its western boundary and replacing them with a smaller number of larger sheds.
People living near the club were concerned the new boat sheds would block their sea views, club commodore Andy Robertshawe says.
The club’s strategic development subcommittee is now redrawing its plans, which will be presented again in February, he says.
‘‘We’re trying to come up with a proposal everybody’s happy with.’’
The boat sheds are dated and were built for dinghies, not the bigger boats most members have today, Mr Robertshawe says.
The club wants to build a new sea wall, rearrange its parking, and redevelop its clubhouse after the boat shed project is complete.
Costings and more complete plans on all stages of the development will be presented at the yetto-be arranged February meeting, he says.
