Looking back down the line

An eagle-eyed Pukerua Bay commuter thought Muri railway station was back up and running last week – but it was not the case.

The blunder from Greater Wellington Regional Council – which has since been fixed – saw a prominent sign at the Pukerua Bay station advertising Muri as the next northbound platform. Muri was closed by GWRC in May 2011.

The Muri sign was put up on the lightpole in December.

Regional council spokesperson Philippa Lagan says signs with Muri on them were ordered when the Pukerua Bay station was being refurbished in the summer of 2009/10.

‘‘[The signs] were put on hold for financial reasons but when funding become available again last year they were manufactured and installed. Apologies if we’ve caused any confusion or raised any false hopes.’’
