Get your sneakers on for Parks Week!
Parks Week is an annual campaign which aims to promote the value of parks in our local community and with over 953 hectares of parks and reserves in Porirua it seems crazy not to be boasting about it. That equates to 176 parks and reserves, including our playgrounds. A range of private and public events will take place across New Zealand next week to spread the word that parks are essential to healthy, happy and strong communities. This year’s theme “Get healthy by Nature” is about linking healthy living with parks. In other words make the most of Porirua’s parks, enjoy the surroundings and get that body moving. The health benefits from walking, cycling and movement as part of your daily routine are immeasurable. Simply being in a park is also good for your physical and mental health; listening to the birds, the wind in the trees or even the children in the playground while walking – it’s about life balance, lifestyle and taking some time for yourself to enjoy the outdoors. There are a range of ways you can do this.
