Ocean Outfitters

The Mana-Porirua area has a long history of water use dating back to Kupe’s first landing over a thousand years ago. The inlet, coastline and surrounding beaches offer some of the best conditions in the region for getting out on the water and enjoying the ocean. Only metres from the water is Ocean Outfitters, a newly opened surf shop based in Mana. The store is dedicated to surf sports supplying all the equipment you’ll need for Surfing, Windsurfing, Kiteboarding and Stand Up Paddleboarding, so they’ll have the best gear to help you get out there all year round. All the staff do at least one if not more of the sports covered by the shop, so you can be assured you’ll be getting good honest advise from someone who has real experience. Not only does the store sell boards, wetsuits and all the other bits you’ll need for the surf, but they also offer lessons and rentals. The shop’s mission is to ‘share the stoke’, “we like to help people get out on the water and feel the stoke you get from surf sports in a safe and easy way. To do this we offer lessons for Stand Up Paddling, Kiteboarding and Windsurfing and we have a full rental and demo fleet of Paddleboards” says store owner Chris Brown. “The sport of paddleboarding is probably our main focus at the moment, it’s seen huge growth both globally and in NZ”, Mr Brown says. “The sport is great for fitness, it gives a really good core workout while also building your balance, its perfect cross training or general fitness for pretty much anyone of any age”. Stand Up Paddleboarding or SUP for short is incredibly versatile, you can flat water cruise, head out into the surf or even race competitively. The current world SUP champion Annabel Anderson comes from NZ, showing that kiwis can more than hold their own on the world stage.
