Tawa Rugby Club on a mission

Kapi-Mana News - - SPORT, FITNESS & RECREATION -

2013 could

well be the season for Tawa to remember, if the pre-season training is anything to go by. The player numbers are considerably more that at this time in past seasons. Already there are good signs of regular competition for positions. Coaches and managers are well-positioned for the Premiers, Firsts, Colts, 85’s, a possible Reserve side and, of course, the “Evergreen” Prezzies. Last season saw the Premiers play in the Jubilee Cup for the first time in some years. The team had the belief that to train, act and play at a higher level was what got results. As all clubs well know, injuries often occur at the Premier and First grade levels. It is a massive tribute to Tawa’s coaches that as a minnow club, it was able to not only stay competitive, but win matches. The Firsts and 85’s made it to the finals, and were just pipped. The Colts won their Final along with the Vic Calcinnai Cup. In the off-season the Fijian Warriors won the President’s Cup at the Wellington Sevens. At the club’s recent AGM, Murray Mexted was made a life member. Murray attended the meeting and gave a fascinating recount of his family’s involvement with Tawa RFC. His father Graeme is also a life member. Pre-season is well underway with training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 6.30pm. Junior registration is 6pm, March 1 and March 5 at the clubrooms. If you require further information to play, sponsor or be involved with Tawa Rugby Club in any way, contact: Allan G. Davidson, Club Captain, 021 350 202.
