Worshippers being counted
A nationwide church census is taking place in the next two months and is expected to reveal how often New Zealanders go to church. Past surveys suggest one Kiwi in five attends a place of Christian worship at least once a month. Using the slogan: Take the Pulse, the New Zealand Church Census, organised by MissionKoru, will be done by a team of about 150 volunteers, each of whom will contact every church in their district. The main purpose of this census is to provide new information to church leaders to help them plan at local, regional and national levels. Beyond the more visible denominational churches, MissionKoru expects to find many new independent churches of varying ethnicities which meet in modern church buildings, homes, commercial premises, garages, shop fronts and cafes.
