Easter Bunny is early
The Easter Bunny will visit Greenacres School a week early this Saturday for its Mad Hatter’s Gala.
Hundreds of chocolate Easter eggs will be hidden around the Tawa school’s grounds in an epic treasure hunt planned by gala organisers Steph Pettersson and Angela Randall.
A parade of children’s handmade Easter hats will be the centrepiece of the gala at 1.30pm.
‘‘Everybody from the school turns up to watch the hat parade, it’s huge,’’ Mrs Randall says.
Greenacres has held its Mad Hatter’s Gala since 2011, but this year changed the timing from November to Easter so it would stand out from other school fairs, Mrs Pettersson says.
The previous two galas paid for a huge $39,000 playground, and this year organisers hope to raise $15,000 for new furniture.
Aside from the treasure hunt, attractions include pony rides, soccer, mini jeeps, Nerf gun shooting, live music, gymnastics and auctions. Displays of vintage cars and models trains are also expected to pull crowds.
There’s no doubt the sweets are a big drawcard for school pupils though. When asked what he was looking forward to most, Mrs Pettersson’s son James said: ‘‘Eating too much lollies – it’s going to be awesome.’’
Great eggspectations: Saturday’s Easter-themed Mad Hatter’s Gala at Greenacres School is set to be the biggest yet. Pupil Riley Diamond, 6, says he is particularly looking forward to the chocolate egg prizes.
