School gala sure to be a blast
Families are encouraged to saddle up their horses and mosey on down to Pukerua Bay School’s Wild West Gala this Saturday.
Bands Killing Bear, Surf Daddies and Rusty Designz are headlining, with plenty of other entertainment, activities and bargains to keep punters happy.
School principal Mary Jones says this year the money will again go towards ICT equipment.
‘‘As a school we’ve surveyed the community and respondents were very clear about wanting a big thrust towards developing ICT equipment to provide a 21st century learning experience for the children.’’
Mrs Jones says the whole school community has been involved to ensure the gala is one to remember.
‘‘We’ve got horse rides, a reverse bungy jump, giant inflatable slide, Chair-OPlane rides, paintball target shooting, and fairy and elf land for the littlies.’’
The international food court will include Polish hot dogs, a gourmet barbecue, croquettes, vegetable curry and great coffee. All the usual stalls will be open for business and include toys, clothing, bric-a-brac, books and a silent auction.
The 2012 gala raised $26,000 towards ICT equipment, in particular classroom laptops.
‘‘You just can’t underestimate the impact an injection of funds like this can have on a small school of 164 children like ours. It means we can purchase the added extras that are really now essentials for students living in the 21st century.’’
The gala is on from 11am to 3pm.
Howdy partner: Students Zoe Wilson and Jake Lawrence are all set for a showdown at the Pukerua Bay School Wild West Gala.
