Cost of staging health festival to be revealed

The cost of staging Creekfest is likely to be known this week.

The event’s co-ordinator, Liz Kelly, says she will have a clearer picture on costs to hold the health festival, which took place on March 9, after a report is prepared.

The festival was nearly cancelled after funding sources dried up, but the Whanau Centre Trust came to the rescue last month, agreeing to underwrite it.

Ms Kelly is awaiting the outcome of two funding applications. A final report on the overall cost of the event, which was expected to need at least $65,000 to stage, is due this week.

Thousands of people poured onto Cannons Creek Park and the event was a success, she says.

‘‘The Whanau Centre have been instrumental in making it happen, I’m hoping the burden on them will not be great.’’

A discussion will also be held in the near future, with community input, on whether Creekfest will continue to be an annual event or be staged once every two years.
