Ngati Toa on council
That was an interesting article regarding Ngati Toa elders and Liz Kelly [KMN, March 12].
I was surprised to learn that Liz is the Ngati Toa representative to the Porirua City Council, at least according to Thom Kenny.
This is plainly not the case as there is no statutory Maori seat on the PCC. Liz is an elected representative of the western ward. I also find it amusingly ironic because Liz Kelly was against the idea of having a separate Maori seat on the PCC.
