Centre status clarified

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Perhaps this letter will shed a little light on the sad subject of the Porirua Whanau Centre.

As I understand the facts the Whanau Centre was incorporated and registered as a society and became vested in the land and assets. From a legal point of view the members of that centre should follow its rules and call a special general meeting to appoint its executive and resolve outstanding matters. Should that not be possible, if that centre is defunct the Registrar of Incorporated Societies has reserve powers.

The second centre is presently just another body with no rights to the land and assets.
