Mi­grant sem­i­nar

Set­tle­ment Sup­port is run­ning a free sem­i­nar on how to pre­pare for an emer­gency, aimed at new­com­ers to New Zealand, on March 20.

Or­gan­i­sa­tions that work with new mi­grants, and em­ploy­ers of new mi­grants are also in­vited to at­tend.

Trevor Farmer, the Porirua-Kapiti area co-or­di­na­tor from the Welling­ton Re­gional Emer­gency Man­age­ment Of­fice, will present the ses­sion.

He will dis­cuss the im­por­tance of hav­ing an emer­gency plan, stor­ing food and water, deal­ing with sewage, and health care, neigh­bour sup­port, get­ting home from work, emer­gency pro­ce­dures, man­ag­ing ex­pec­ta­tions and time frames of dis­as­ters.

The sem­i­nar is at the Whi­tireia Com­mu­nity Polytech­nic Lec­ture The­atre.

It starts at 10.30am and lasts for an hour. Lec­ture The­atre One is to the right of En­trance One.
