Settlement Support is running a free seminar on how to prepare for an emergency, aimed at newcomers to New Zealand, on March 20.
Organisations that work with new migrants, and employers of new migrants are also invited to attend.
Trevor Farmer, the Porirua-Kapiti area co-ordinator from the Wellington Regional Emergency Management Office, will present the session.
He will discuss the importance of having an emergency plan, storing food and water, dealing with sewage, and health care, neighbour support, getting home from work, emergency procedures, managing expectations and time frames of disasters.
The seminar is at the Whitireia Community Polytechnic Lecture Theatre.
It starts at 10.30am and lasts for an hour. Lecture Theatre One is to the right of Entrance One.
