Three young Porirua sailors helped Hutt International Boys’ School claim the Harken Secondary Schools Sailing Regatta in Auckland recently.
Jonathan Francis, Callum Pritchard and Daniel McDowall, who all sail at Paremata Boating Club, were part of a four-person crew led by George Gautrey at the regatta, hosted by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
The boys sailed particularly well on the first day, March 9, winning four of the seven races, creating an almost unbeatable lead. Though not quite as dominant the following day, the crew finished in the top five in all races to win by a significant margin from Kerikeri High and King’s College. HIBS have been invited back to defend the title next year, and with all the team returning to school they should have a great chance of a repeat in 2014.
