We are very lucky to have so many fantastic play groups in Porirua. They are a great place to meet other parents and let the tots socialise in a relaxed atmosphere.
Most of the local groups meet weekly during school term time.
They have toys for the children to play with and morning tea is usually provided for a small cost, if not free.
Some groups are a bit more structured and have a musical session first or art/craft activity.
But what they all have in common is like-minded parents wanting to socialise with their children.
Noah’s Ark at St Andrew’s Anglican Church Parish Centre in Plimmerton is held on Tuesday mornings from 9.30am.
Clare, who runs the group, plans a theme each week to base the sessions around.
There is always a fun activity for the pre-schoolers to join in with and often related songs and books.
A toy box is provided for the younger children and those bigger kids who just want some free play.
Morning tea is available with tea and coffee for the adults.
A donation is appreciated to cover costs of craft supplies and morning tea.
Bubbacino is a musical playgroup held at the Titahi Bay Baptist Church, corner of Kura and Waiuta St, on Tuesday mornings.
There are two sessions. The first starts at 9.30am and the second at 10.10am.
Each session includes action songs and morning tea, with fluffies for the kids. Bubbacino costs $5 each family. Mana/ Porirua Plunket Coffee Group for mums of new babies meets at 9.30am either upstairs at the Anchor Church in Whitby or at the Plimmerton Plunket Rooms, alternating week about.
The Paremata Plunket Playgroup meets downstairs at the same time.
They have toys, crafts and a huge area to play in. Morning tea is provided for children and hot drinks for adults.
The cost is $3 each child/$5 each family.
Tawa and Linden Plunket have recently started a buggy walk group, meeting every second Tuesday at the Linden Community Centre for a walk. Check out their Facebook page for more information.
Creek Tots is a group run at The Salvation Army in Cannons Creek between 10am and 11.30am. I believe this a free group.
There are many more playgroups throughout Porirua, most of which I have listed on the website.
Have a look and try a couple out to find which suits you and your little one(s) best. If you know of a group that is not listed please let me know.
