HANDY LOCALS NEEDED FOR CHARITY RENOVATIONS
Tradesmen and DIY-ers are being sought by Habitat for Humanity for non-profit home repairs in Porirua. The charity has spent three years repairing leaking roofs, patching decks, making homes more accessible for the disabled, and other essential home repairs for low-income residents through its A Brush With Kindness programme. Habitat fronts the money for renovation and repairs, which is then paid back by recipient families as they can afford it. Homeowners also help with building work in an arrangement known as sweat equity. Habitat is seeking volunteers to help with the much-needed projects and is also able to pay some tradesmen for more specialised work.
