Warm winter for dogs

The animals at Porirua Animal Control Centre will stay warm this winter thanks to a successful dog blanket appeal.

What started as an internal request for blankets from council staff has spread across the area, resulting in overflowing cupboards at the Porirua centre.

Animal Control team

leader Murray Chilcott said he was unable to count the number of blankets and towels that had been received since animal control officer Sophie Styles sent out the request.

‘‘There’s more blankets than dogs at the moment.

‘‘Each dog gets a blanket to keep them a little bit warmer [during] the cold winter nights,’’ he said.

‘‘We received overwhelming support and are very, very thankful.’’
