Two separate four-car crashes held up traffic in both directions on the Johnsonville to Porirua motorway on Thursday morning.

The first four-car nose-to-tail crash took place in the southbound lane between Tawa and Churton Park at 7.05am, acting senior sergeant James McKay said.

The second four-car nose-to-tail crash happened on the northbound lane between Tawa and Porirua, one kilometre south of the Porirua turnoff.

Both accidents caused delays during the busy morning peak- hour traffic, but no- one was injured, Mr McKay said.
