Saints to play in Porirua

Bas­ket­ball fans will get a one-off chance to see the Saints play the Philip­pines national team at Te Rau­paraha Arena tonight.

The Smart Gi­las are ranked fourth in Asia and have for­mer NBA cen­tre Mar­cus Douthit in their ranks.

For their one-off lower North Is­land game they will face an in­vi­ta­tional Welling­ton Saints side, in­clud­ing Tall Blacks le­gend Phill Jones and Saints favourites Dil­lon Boucher and Bryant Mark­son.

They re­place Tall Blacks Corey Web­ster, Lind­say Tait and Casey Franks, who are at a train­ing camp in Auck­land.

For their first match in New Zealand the Smart Gi­las will bring a full-strength team as they pre­pare for their Asian world cham­pi­onship qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ment.


Check­mate: The cap­tain of the win­ning St Theresa’s chess team was An­gelina Hutchins, 8, back row, cen­tre. Her op­pos­ing cap­tain was Toi Royal, 9, on the right of grand­mas­ter Mark No­ble.
