Dora scoops North City tal­ent prizes

Porirua singer Dora Laupola won the North City Shop­ping Cen­tre’s an­nual tal­ent search on Satur­day.

The 14- year- old was one of seven Aotea Col­lege en­trants to com­pete in the com­pe­ti­tion fi­nal.

She per­formed her favourite song, I Don’t Want To Talk About It, by Rod Ste­wart, ac­com­pa­ny­ing her­self on gui­tar.

Dora said she was sur­prised to win, and pleased to have fam­ily and friends in the au­di­ence sup­port­ing her.

She was mod­est about the win.

‘‘I was just us­ing the gift that God gave me,’’ she said.

Dora was one of 10 se­nior fi­nal­ists to com­pete on Satur­day.

The ju­nior fi­nal was held ear­lier.

Dora was also named the over­all win­ner, re­ceiv­ing a $750 gift card plus $500 in cash.

The ju­nior win­ners were Roseta Lopa, Anas­ta­sia Sir­ila, Lise Lafaele, Tiresa Fo­mai and Emelei La’ai, who jointly re­ceived a $750 gift card.

More than 130 acts en­tered the tal­ent search, per­form­ing in 19 heats dur­ing the school hol­i­days.
