Whitby village funding boosted after appeal
Five Porirua villages have had their Village Planning funding reduced to bolster Whitby’s share for the 2013-14 financial year.
In May, Whitby was allocated $12,000 of a total $500,000 fund, the least given to any village.
In response, the Whitby Residents’ Association asked to speak at a Porirua City Council meeting about its disappointment that parking, a top priority, had not been funded.
On July 17, a closed meeting to review Village Planning was held and the budget revised. Whitby’s fund has been boosted to $27,000, which will include a study of the suburb’s parking problems.
Ascot Park and Pauatahanui’s shares have been reduced from $45,000 to $40,000.
Hongoeka, Takapuwahia and Titahi Bay’s combined $50,000 fund is now $45,000. The three villages shared a smaller pool because they were in the early stages of their Village Plans and had not identified specific projects.
