Whitby Residents Assn replies
The Kapi-Mana News article (August 13) reporting Village Planning funding and the actions of the Whitby Residents Association may be misleading to your readers.
The Whitby Residents Association has never ‘‘threatened to complain publicly about its share of the $500,000’’, as the article stated. We have never threatened to do anything to anyone.
We were concerned about the process, transparency, and fairness of the allocations and raised that with councillors, but we have never complained or threatened to complain about our share.
Similarly, the Whitby Residents Association has never ‘‘proposed the money be allocated based on the proportion of rates paid’’, either officially or unofficially.
The association committee lodged an OIA request simply because we wanted to know definitively how much Whitby contributed to Porirua City Council rates, as we had varying figures from varying sources previously. We now have accurate information.
