Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Your conclusion that ‘‘Pak’nSave tops market survey’’ (August 6) is only partially true.

A skim read of the list of items you checked and their prices shows that highest and lowest prices vary significantly, so that the comparative totals aren’t that relevant.

In Porirua we have a big choice of where to shop and my experience as a purchaser of vegetarian and healthy choice items is that these are more expensive at Pak’nSave, or they aren’t available at all, and then there is the hassle of the enormous queues.

Porirua New World is wellstocked, has good specials and the counter service is very quick.

Certainly not everyone can afford to purchase non-standard items, but even in your survey the jam and chocolate are a mite cheaper at New World than Pak’nSave, and the peas and milk are only a few cents apart.

What your survey tells us is that we can only judge supermarket prices by comparing
