The new Cal­liope Park play­ground, in Can­nons Creek, is prov­ing to be a mag­net for lo­cal chil­dren. The play area on the sunny, south­ern end of Cal­liope Park fea­tures a range of play equip­ment, in­clud­ing a climb­ing frame, swings and ob­sta­cle course-type chal­lenges. A cir­cu­lar foot­path around the park, im­proved light- ing and a bas­ket­ball court ex­ten­sion have also been com­pleted. The old play­ground in the north­ern cor­ner of the park has been dis­man­tled, and will be re-used as four pieces of adult tness equip­ment around the new cir­cu­lar foot­path. The work is be­ing car­ried out by vol­un­teers from Plim­mer­ton Ro­tary.

Work still to come in­cludes new seat­ing, re­seal­ing of the quar­ter court bas­ket­ball area with a new back­board and new net­ball goal in­stalled, and a fun road safety ed­u­ca­tion cir­cuit. The Cal­liope park up­grade is be­ing driven by the Can­nons Creek Res­i­dents and Ratepay­ers As­so­ci­a­tion through Porirua City Coun­cil’s Vil­lage Plan­ning Pro­gramme.
