A year after hamming it up with a national pork award, Tawa butchery Cameron Harrison has brought home the bacon.

The Main Rd butchery has won gold at the 100% New Zealand Bacon & Ham Competition for its middle bacon.

Last year the butchery won best off-the-bone ham and the supreme Ham of the Year prize.

Butchers Rob Cameron and Simon Harrison shared the gold award with Goodman Fielder, for its Kiwi Bacon brand.

Head judge, Anita Sarginson, said winners in the six bacon categories ‘‘espouse all the pleasure that bacon brings to our plates’’.

‘‘There is, every year, a rise in the standard and professionalism that come with the competition entries.’’
