Tawa School pupils outdid themselves last Thursday in their annual Book Character Parade.

Tintin was there, as was Katniss from The Hunger Games, and Wally from Where’s Wally? could occasionally be spotted in the crowd.

Every child took a turn on the stage to the sound of whoops and cheers from their schoolmates.

Because the parade coincided with Halloween, there were plenty of vampires and witches.

Kaila Redfern, 8, came as a vampire bat and even brought a surgical bag of ‘‘blood’’ to sip from.

Patrick Al-Daghestani, 10, and Gabriel Daniels, 9, came dressed as themselves: they are both characters in a book they wrote. Too Much Beans is a comic book about a fart that ends up destroying Asia, Gabriel said.

Eight pupils won book vouchers for their costumes.

Leader of the pack: Michaela Stuart, 7, dressed as Sacagawea.

She won a best dressed prize.
