Meeting on road safety scheduled

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

Improving the layout of car parks, a taxi rank and the roundabout at Cannons Creek shops will be discussed at a public meeting tomorrow.

Residents are invited to the meeting, which will gather public opinion on how roading and parking could be better designed. It will be hosted by Porirua City Council and the Cannons Creek Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association.

The current roading layout could be dangerous for pedestrians and motorists alike, said Jon Blackshaw, acting chairman of the association.

‘‘You have a few moments where you have your heart in your mouth,’’ he said.

Cars tended to hoon around the roundabout, which was hedged on two sides by pedestrian crossings, Mr Blackshaw said.

People unable to attend the meeting can comment on roading changes on the residents’ association’s Facebook group.
