Who will be Porirua’s political idol?

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

Porirua politicians will battle it out this Thursday, but instead of policies they will try to win public favour with their singing talents.

‘‘Sandbar Idol’’ was first staged last year as a fundraiser for the Derek Wootton Memorial Trust. A glammed-up education minister Hekia Parata took top honours, followed by Porirua mayor Nick Leggett, with guitar-wielding Mana MP Kris Faafoi relegated to third.

The same three will compete again this year, along with a Sandbar regular and one or two police entrants.

Last year’s event raised $3000 for the Derek Wootton trust, which assists young Porirua people with their sporting, cultural or academic goals.
