Musical book launch at Pataka
A musical performance will celebrate the launch of Titahi Bay-written novel The Score at Pataka on Sunday.
Written by Adrienne Jansen, the book is the first publication by Escalator Press.
The publication is an initiative of the Whitireia Creative Writing Programme, which began in Porirua 20 years ago.
Jansen said The Score told the story of a grand piano that falls off a crane while being lifted into a council flat.
‘‘ A ramshackle bunch of council tenants weigh in to help Stefan, illegal migrant and piano technician, rebuild the grievously damaged instrument,’’ she said.
They also form a band that performs on Saturday nights, Jansen said.
Some of the music they play in the book will be performed by musicians at the launch.
Titahi Bay musician Serge Grandchamp of Piano Prestige assisted in writing the book and would also perform, Jansen said.
The Score: Titahi Bay piano technician Serge Grandchamp will perform at Pataka on Saturday while Titahi Bay author Adrienne Jansen speaks about her latest book.
