Mu­si­cal book launch at Pataka

A mu­si­cal per­for­mance will cel­e­brate the launch of Ti­tahi Bay-writ­ten novel The Score at Pataka on Sun­day.

Writ­ten by Adri­enne Jansen, the book is the first pub­li­ca­tion by Es­ca­la­tor Press.

The pub­li­ca­tion is an ini­tia­tive of the Whi­tireia Cre­ative Writ­ing Pro­gramme, which be­gan in Porirua 20 years ago.

Jansen said The Score told the story of a grand pi­ano that falls off a crane while be­ing lifted into a coun­cil flat.

‘‘ A ram­shackle bunch of coun­cil ten­ants weigh in to help Ste­fan, il­le­gal mi­grant and pi­ano tech­ni­cian, re­build the griev­ously dam­aged in­stru­ment,’’ she said.

They also form a band that per­forms on Satur­day nights, Jansen said.

Some of the mu­sic they play in the book will be per­formed by mu­si­cians at the launch.

Ti­tahi Bay mu­si­cian Serge Grand­champ of Pi­ano Pres­tige as­sisted in writ­ing the book and would also per­form, Jansen said.
