Tawa’s coaches revamped

Kapi-Mana News - - SPORT -

Tawa’s awardwinning rugby coaching team – including Wellington club coach of the year Steve So’oialo – is no more.

The four men who helped the club win the Jubilee Cup and Swindale Shield have either stepped back or pulled out.

So’oialo will move into a fitness trainer’s role; Matthew Boyd will coach the Tawa College first XV; Steve Burridge will take a year out; and club coaching co-ordinator Dion Waller will not be as involved in hands-on coaching.

The new coach will be 2013 second team coach Logan Ili, assisted by Katsu Takeuchi, who has moved from Wests.

Tawa chairman Dave Banks said the coaching staff would not all be new.

‘‘Dion will still be at the club and Steve, we’ll still have him there doing the fitness training, so there is some continuity,’’ he said.

‘‘At the end of the day, Steve had done four years and done a fantastic job and now he wants to go coach his boy.

‘‘Boydy is going back to coach Tawa College, which is good for the club.

‘‘We have a really strong playing group, so I think we’ll go well.

‘‘Logan coached the senior firsts this year and was pretty awesome.’’
