Pay rise for councillors
Most Wellington regional councillors were given handy pay rises last week.
A new salary and committee structure was approved last week.
Paul Swain, who will oversee public transport, and Prue Lamason, who will chair WRC Holdings Ltd – the council’s holdings company – and the Hutt Valley Flood Management Subcommittee, will each get a pay rise of about $17,000.
The base salary for councillors has been increased from $54,308 to $57,600, meaning most councillors will come out of the re-jig better off.
Council chairwoman Fran Wilde has her pay determined separately by the Remuneration Authority. This year her salary has been cut from $168,917 to $152,859. Barbara Donaldson is the new deputy chairwoman of the regional council and will chair the newly created strategy and policy committee. Her salary rises significantly to $80,640.
