Pay rise for coun­cil­lors

Most Wellington re­gional coun­cil­lors were given handy pay rises last week.

A new salary and com­mit­tee struc­ture was ap­proved last week.

Paul Swain, who will over­see pub­lic trans­port, and Prue La­ma­son, who will chair WRC Hold­ings Ltd – the coun­cil’s hold­ings com­pany – and the Hutt Val­ley Flood Man­age­ment Sub­com­mit­tee, will each get a pay rise of about $17,000.

The base salary for coun­cil­lors has been in­creased from $54,308 to $57,600, mean­ing most coun­cil­lors will come out of the re-jig bet­ter off.

Coun­cil chair­woman Fran Wilde has her pay de­ter­mined sep­a­rately by the Re­mu­ner­a­tion Au­thor­ity. This year her salary has been cut from $168,917 to $152,859. Bar­bara Don­ald­son is the new deputy chair­woman of the re­gional coun­cil and will chair the newly cre­ated strat­egy and pol­icy com­mit­tee. Her salary rises sig­nif­i­cantly to $80,640.
