Arts centre on agenda

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

Porirua City councillor John Burke raised the thorny issue of a performing arts centre in Porirua at a Te Komiti meeting last week.

He said Porirua was the only New Zealand city of its size not to have such a facility.

Plans for a performing arts centre died in 2011 when Whitireia Community Polytechnic withdrew from the project.

Mr Burke asked for a review of the council’s decision in 2012 to withdraw the $3 million allocated towards building an arts centre.

Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett said Aotea College would present to a full council meeting this week on a plan to redevelop its auditorium into an arts centre.
