Dump that old TV

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

The TV Takeback programme has been extended in Porirua.

The scheme, funded by the Ministry for the Environment, allows residents to recycle their old televisions at Trash Palace for $5.

It comes at a time when the switchover to digital has occurred around the country.

Trash Palace’s initial quota of 2000 televisions has been met, but it had made room for another 1000, the organisation’s chief executive Elizabeth Meaclem said.

Once the extra quota was full, it would cost $25 to take your old television in, she said.

Copper, steel, aluminium, circuit boards and glass are recycled by the employees at Mana Recovery.

Materials such as lead and barium need to be taken care of to protect the environment.

It was important TVs were not dumped, Ms Meaclem said.
