Band honours life members
Eight members of the Trust Porirua City Brass Band were made life members last month.
The life memberships went to Clynton Payne, Marie Rockell, Margaret Lawton, Sally Garrett, Rick Anset, John Jones, Bill Platt and Graham Lawton and were a highlight of the band’s end-of-year dinner on November 23.
The youngest award winner during the dinner was 14-yearold St Mary’s student Olivia Creighton.
John Rowe presented Olivia with the Barry Rowe Cup for the most promising junior player.
Olivia joined Porirua Youth Brass Band in 2009 as a percussionist.
Under the expert tuition of Tamara Wetere – a percussionist for the Porirua brass band – Olivia’s talent for percussion has been recognised at district and national level.
