Band hon­ours life mem­bers

Eight mem­bers of the Trust Porirua City Brass Band were made life mem­bers last month.

The life mem­ber­ships went to Clyn­ton Payne, Marie Rock­ell, Mar­garet Law­ton, Sally Gar­rett, Rick Anset, John Jones, Bill Platt and Gra­ham Law­ton and were a high­light of the band’s end-of-year din­ner on Novem­ber 23.

The youngest award win­ner dur­ing the din­ner was 14-yearold St Mary’s stu­dent Olivia Creighton.

John Rowe pre­sented Olivia with the Barry Rowe Cup for the most promis­ing ju­nior player.

Olivia joined Porirua Youth Brass Band in 2009 as a per­cus­sion­ist.

Un­der the ex­pert tu­ition of Ta­mara Wetere – a per­cus­sion­ist for the Porirua brass band – Olivia’s tal­ent for per­cus­sion has been recog­nised at dis­trict and na­tional level.
