Santa Claus goes digital

Santa Claus has taken inspiration from Porirua’s Gigatown campaign this year and turned his gift operation technological.

All elves were equipped with iPads to chart their toy output. Santa used one himself to type up his naughty and nice lists.

GPS was a revelation for Santa, who is mapping out his global Christmas Eve route using Google Maps.

The jolly bearded man popped into the Kapi-Mana News offices last week to take advantage of the city centre’s free wi-fi.

He tells us his taste for a glass of milk and a slice of cake have not changed – but he would also appreciate a tweet or Twitter follow @santaclaus.

Porirua’s love of the digital was reflected in gift requests this year: tablets and smartphones were top of many people’s lists.

One thing technology can’t improve is Santa’s hectic schedule of deliveries. He hopes to find time, however, to have a cuppa with exchange student Hannah Christiansen in Ranui, who hails from his home Greenland.
