Man jailed for stealing from Subway

Kapi-Mana News - - COURT -

A former Porirua Subway employee was sentenced to 22 months in prison for stealing more than $ 76,000 from his employer.

Cannons Creek resident Joseph Sionetuato, 29, pleaded guilty to stealing $ 76,200 between October 2012 and August 2013, when he appeared in Porirua District Court last Tuesday.

Judge John Walker said Sionetuato had taken advantage of the trust the restaurant owners had placed in him.

‘‘You took cash from the till and took it for yourself,’’ he said.

‘‘You were relied on by the business owners who helped you and treated you like family.’’

From August 13 till 30, a surveillance camera caught Sionetuato taking money from the till 24 times.

Sionetuato’s lawyer, Charlotte Hollingsworth, suggested Sionetuato should receive a punishment that allowed him to continue his new part-time job.
