Running for a good cause
The Cancer Society Relay For Life in Porirua is weeks away and teams are encouraged to register soon.
The relay is a ‘‘celebration of life’’ that will bring Porirua communities together in an effort to minimise the impact of cancer.
Cancer survivors, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, civic organisations and the public are invited to take part in the exciting overnight teams event.
Relay For Life begins at Te Rauparaha Arena on Saturday, March 15, at 4pm and runs until 9am the following day.
The relay is a family-oriented event in which participants enjoy the camaraderie of being part of a team while raising funds to help the Cancer Society fundraise.
Participants camp out at the relay site, and when they are not taking their turn walking, they can take part in fun activities and enjoy local entertainment.
Teams collect donations in the weeks leading to the event.
‘‘ Relay For Life brings the progress against cancer to the forefront,’’ said Angela Ryan, the Porirua Relay for Life coordinator.
‘‘The funds raised enable us to continue our investment in research, education, advocacy and patient services.
