Up to 3000 people are expected to attend a Wellington church’s two Porirua services this weekend.

Arise Church Wellington campus manager Jessica Fowler said it was the first time Arise would have church in Porirua.

‘‘Usually our services are in the Wellington CBD, but having our normal venues booked out for this particular weekend has provided a great opportunity for us to come to Porirua for the day,’’ she said.

‘‘We have had this in the pipeline for a while now, but only announced it to the church a couple of weeks ago.’’

Mrs Fowler said there were no plans for a permanent service in Porirua.

‘‘However, we run buses to and from Porirua to our youth programmes on a Friday night and to church on Sunday.’’

She said the church was treating it as a special day and had booked out the swimming pool for afterwards.

The services will be held on Sunday at 10am and 5pm at the Te Rauparaha Arena.

Arise church also runs a Breakfast Club programme at Windley School in Cannons Creek.
