Creekfest plans take shape
Plans are well advanced for Creekfest, which takes place on March 8 at Cannons Creek Park.
The event, which promotes healthy eating, music and sport, and highlights the health providers available in Porirua, runs from 10am till 4pm.
It is one of the biggest healthy food events in New Zealand.
One of the co-ordinators, Benna Sevali’i-Siolo, said Jamoa Jam are lined up as the main act on the big stage.
There would be local talent galore on the main and smaller stage throughout the day, he said.
Last year, the run-up to Creekfest was plagued with organisation and funding issues and there was even an announcement at one point that it was cancelled. Despite that, more than 100 stallholders pitched up on the day and 30,000 people attended.
Now in its 11th year, the event is overseen by Healthlinks and Porirua City Council.
A big match – the teams and code still to be confirmed – is planned as the drawcard sports event.
Last year the Porirua Vikings and St George Dragons premier rugby league sides played a pre- season match.
