Correct English

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

I read with interest your article about the Shine literacy project proposed for Porirua schools.

Good reading and writing skills are essential for effective communication – as is being able to spell correctly.

In the fourth paragraph from the end – and I quote: ‘‘It was based on the same principals, but allowed freedom for teachers.’’

In this instance the principal (‘‘-al’’) was Kerry Delaney of Titahi Bay School. But the principle (‘‘-le’’) under discussion was one that allowed teachers to be creative about how they taught.

A few letters can make all the difference between sense and nonsense.
