Porirua makes Gigatown comeback
Porirua has stormed into seventh place in the Gigatown standings after coming second in a recent video competition.
The Facebook Smart Cities competition was won by Nelson and earned the city 200,000 points.
The 100,000 points for Porirua was its first placing in a mini-competition, and was won on the back of a video showing off the benefits of gigawifi in education.
With only four months to go in the Gigatown competition, Porirua is about 30,000 points behind sixth-placed Masterton and a whopping 400,000 points adrift of fifth-placed Timaru.
The top five towns will have their counters set back to zero in September, and the competition starts again to see who gets the one gigabit per second internet connection.
