Mayoral snub embarrassing
I write with reference to the front page article of Kapi-Mana News (April 22). Mayor Nick Leggett is correct in feeling embarrassed on behalf of Porirua City that he, as mayor, was not invited to the visit to the Royal New Zealand Police College by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I do not believe that mayor Leggett was touting to be invited for his own ego.
He was shocked, and had every right to be, that appropriate protocols were not shown to the office of mayor of the city.
He was in my view deliberately and inappropriately excluded.
Appropriate protocols for such a visit to any town or city call for the senior representative of the city, in this case mayor Leggett, to be present to receive the guests on behalf of the city.
How is it that this occurred in every other instance around New Zealand during the royal couple’s visit, but did not happen here in Porirua? That this did not occur shows a complete lack of judgment and appreciation of the usual courtesies and protocols when organising such a visit.
